iBGStar Device Allows Those With Diabetes to Monitor Their Glucose With An iPhone

A new device called the iBGStar was just released in the UK that allows people living with diabetes to monitor their glucose, right on their iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. It is a small device that connects to the 30 pin dock connector and is controlled be a free app that is available in the App Store.

  • Samples are analysed using Dynamic Electrochemistry® – an intelligent technology for results you can trust.
  • The iBGStar meets today’s stringent industry standards for accuracy and features plasma equivalent calibration for assurance with each and every reading.
  • The iBGStar is an innovative blood glucose meter with a compact, stylish body that can be used on its own or connected to an Apple iPhone or iPod touch to easily display, manage and communicate your diabetes information.
  • No coding required – Simply insert the test strip to begin.
  • The iBGStar works hand in hand with the devices you already use like the iPhone and iPod touch.
  • You will be prompted to automatically download the iBGStar Diabetes Manager App the first time the iBGStar is connected to your iPhone.
  • Your iBGStar will automatically sync data each time it is connected to an iPhone or iPod touch and the iBGStar Diabetes Manager App is launched.
  • The iBGStar Diabetes Manager App helps you keep track of blood glucose, carbs intake and insulin dose, with even more to come to manage your diabetes in “real time” and on-the-go.
  • The discreet and stylish design means the iBGStar can stay attached to your iPhone or iPod touch so you can carry around one less device.
  • You live your life on the go and the iBGStar is the blood glucose meter designed to work with the devices you already own.
  • The iBGStar Diabetes Manager App allows you to input your data with specific notes for personalised information to help you and your healthcare professional analyse patterns and variations to make better-informed diabetes-related decisions.
  • The iBGStar Diabetes Manager App provides you with the ability to record, track and manage your information in an intuitive format.
  • Your individual data can be printed or emailed to share with your healthcare professional for greater flexibility in managing your diabetes together.
  • Single-point support services* for all your diabetes questions (i.e. insulin pens, blood glucose meters, BGStar Diabetes Management Software and iBGStar Diabetes Manager App) can give you the confidence that you have the full support of the diabetes experts with you.

The iBGStar has been launched throughout Europe, but there is no word on if/when this might come to North America. In fact, their website has a disclaimer at the top that says “This website is not intended for US or Canadian residents”.

Next iPhone to Use a Larger 4.6 Inch Display?

Next iPhone to Use a Larger 4.6 Inch Display?

Earlier it was reported Apple was reviewing LTE chips for its next iPhone, and now Reuters has come up with a report in regards to the next iPhone screen size from a South Korean newspaper:

Apple Inc’s new iPhone will have a sharper and bigger 4.6-inch “retina” display and is set to be launched around the second quarter, a South Korean media reported on Thursday.

Apple has decided on the bigger 4.6-inch display for its next iPhone and started placing orders to its suppliers, the Maeil Business Newspaper said, quoting an unnamed industry source.

If such a screen size would be released–it’s already widely available on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, as it uses a 4.6 inch Super AMOLED display (achilles heel: sunlight). Previous rumours of a larger iPhone screen sent the blogosphere into a frenzy, but those never came to light.

What emerged was the iPhone 4S, with the same 3.5 inch screen size that debuted with the original iPhone back in 2007. So far, Apple has remained consistent when it comes to screen sizes for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch–could a drastic screen change be coming for the next iteration of the iPhone?

NEC's tactile touchscreen nudges at the future

A touchscreen's fatal flaw is its lack of feedback: imagine the satisfaction if you could feel those Angry Birds as they flew across the screen. NEC and the Tokyo Institute of Technology wanted a simpler solution to tactile displays than Senseg's electrostatic-field based tech. Instead, this device uses a wire (yup) anchored on each corner of the display -- when force is shown on screen, it jerks the screen in the corresponding direction. You can see it in action after the break, accompanied by the restful tones of Diginfo's narrator. If there's a better way to start a week, we don't wanna know about it.

Galaxy Note Won’t Taste Ice Cream Sandwich Until Q2, But New Apps Sweeten The Deal

The still-popular Galaxy S II just recently got its first official taste of Ice Cream Sandwich, but Galaxy Note owners hoping to experience the same before the end of the quarter are bound to be disappointed by a new announcement from the Korean electronics giant.

Despite a proclamation from the company stating that the update would be available in Q1 2012, Samsung has officially pushed the release of the Note’s ICS update until some time next quarter.

Yeah, I know, it’s a bummer. If it’s any consolation, Note owners will have a slew of new pen-friendly apps to fiddle with once the update actually lands on their handsets. Among them is what Samsung calls S Note, a new writing app with plenty of templates for users to quickly format their thoughts and media into handsome snippets. The S Note app is also augmented by the inclusion of Shape Match (which automatically “corrects” drawn shapes and lines) and what’s sure to be a favorite of college students, Formula Match (recognizes formulas/equations and lets users search for answers).

Also on board is the new My Story app, which allows users to create and personalize their own digital greeting cards with their own media. You know, just because.

Alright, so unless you’re a frazzled student or compulsive life-tracker, they may not be the most substantial additions. Still, when combined with the rest of what Ice Cream Sandwich can do, Galaxy Note owners are in for a hell of an update. Of course, this particular update is meant for the international spec Galaxy Note only, so those of you with carefully cradling your AT&T Notes will have to wait a little longer — that is unless you’re willing to jump into the intriguing realm of rooting and ROMs.
