Motorola has finally released the Gingerbread update for the still solid Atrix 4G smartphone. Aside from making your device run Android 2.3.4, the new firmware will also enable sideloading of apps, which is something Atrix users demanded ever since the phone was released by AT&T. The 161MB heavy download will require 200MB of free space on your microSD card along with the latest Android 2.2 software (Blur_Version.4.1.83.MB860.ATT.en.US). Moreover, it is suggested your Atrix is fully charged and that the phone software is not modified “in any way.” Sounds cool? Make sure to backup all data first and then visit this page at Motorola’s website for further instructions.
Final note – make sure to allocate about 25 minutes for the software update to do its magic. And soon enough you’ll be Copy-Pasting the way you always wanted to. There are other changes included as well, such as Power & Apps Management Improvements, SIP-based video call support, support for additional open media formats and so on…
